Jaishankar shared on X (formerly Twitter), “Good to meet @SecRubio this morning at #G7 FMM. Appreciate his condolences on the loss of lives in the blast in Delhi. Discussed our bilateral ties, focusing on trade and supply chains. Exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East/West Asia situation and Indo-Pacific.”

Strengthening India-US Strategic Partnership

The talks come at a time when the India-US partnership continues to expand across economic and security domains. The discussion underscored cooperation in trade, technology, and global supply chains, vital to both economies’ long-term resilience.

The meeting also coincides with US President Donald Trump’s recent statement that Washington is close to finalizing a new trade agreement with India. “We’re making a deal with India… a fair trade deal. We’re getting close,” Trump said during the swearing-in of Sergio Gor, the new US Ambassador to India.

Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling India “one of America’s most important international relationships” and reaffirmed that the strategic partnership “is a big deal.”

Focus on Global Crises and Indo-Pacific Cooperation

During the G7 session, Jaishankar and Rubio also exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East crisis, and the Indo-Pacific region, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts to promote peace and stability.

India’s participation in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting as an invited partner under Canada’s presidency underscores its growing diplomatic influence and its role in representing the Global South. Other invited countries include Brazil, Australia, and South Korea.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Jaishankar’s presence “reflects India’s continued commitment to working with international partners in addressing global challenges and amplifying the voice of the Global South.”
