India-Greece Enhance Maritime Cooperation in 2026:
India-Greece strengthened their maritime partnership as Indian Navy chief Dinesh K Tripathi met Vice Admiral Dimitrios Eleftherios Kataras, Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, in the national capital on Monday.

The discussions focused on expanding navy-to-navy cooperation, joint exercises, training exchanges, and greater operational collaboration between the two countries.

Ceremonial Welcome at South Block
Vice Admiral Kataras was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns before the formal talks.
According to a statement posted by the Indian Navy spokesperson on X, the two naval chiefs reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting maritime security, interoperability, and deeper professional engagement.
The talks emphasized expanding bilateral maritime cooperation through enhanced joint drills and structured training exchanges aimed at strengthening operational synergy.
Defence Ties Gaining Momentum
The meeting comes amid growing defence engagement between India and Greece.
Earlier this month, Greece’s National Defence Minister Nikolaos-Georgios Dendias visited India at the invitation of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
On February 9, the two ministers held comprehensive talks in New Delhi and agreed to expand cooperation between India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative and Greece’s defence reforms under its Agenda 2030 framework.
According to the Ministry of Defence, both sides reiterated that the India-Greece Strategic Partnership is rooted in shared values of peace, stability, freedom, and mutual respect.
Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2026
During the defence ministerial discussions, a Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2026 was exchanged, outlining a roadmap for enhanced military engagements between the armed forces of both nations.
The plan is expected to cover joint exercises, training programmes, defence industry collaboration, and strategic dialogues aimed at boosting interoperability and strengthening regional security frameworks.

Strategic and Security Dialogue
Earlier on February 6, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also met Dendias to discuss a wide range of strategic and security issues.
Following the meeting, Jaishankar posted on X that he had an “in-depth conversation on a wide range of strategic and security issues” and appreciated Dendias’ insights and assessments.
Expanding Indo-Mediterranean Engagement
The series of high-level engagements underscores deepening India-Greece ties amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in the Indo-Pacific and Mediterranean regions.
As both nations seek to strengthen defence self-reliance and maritime security, the enhanced naval cooperation signals a broader strategic alignment aimed at ensuring regional stability and safeguarding sea lanes of communication.
