Suresh Leads India’s Charge
Dhakshineswar Suresh emerged as the hero of the tie, delivering a standout performance across singles and doubles.
After securing a crucial singles victory against the Netherlands’ highest-ranked player Jesper De Jong on Saturday, Suresh returned to the court on Sunday to compete in the doubles alongside Yuki Bhambri. Playing together for the first time, the Indian duo clinched a dramatic 7-6(0), 3-6, 7-6(1) win over David Pel and Sander Arends in a three-hour battle, giving India a vital lead.
The doubles win shifted the momentum firmly in India’s favor.
Nagal’s Brave Fight Keeps India Alive
India needed Sumit Nagal to seal the tie in the reverse singles, but Jesper De Jong bounced back strongly to win 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 and level the contest.
Nagal, playing with a grade two tear in his right thigh, displayed remarkable courage. His extended battle on court bought Suresh crucial recovery time ahead of the deciding match.
