In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said he was inspired by the dedication of the Indian diaspora actively contributing to community-building initiatives in South Africa. He encouraged them to continue expanding India’s cultural presence and global image, especially among the local South African population.

Strengthening Cultural and Social Ties

PM Modi urged the community to intensify efforts to popularize Indian values and traditions worldwide. Highlighting the importance of cultural diplomacy, he said spreading practices like Yoga, Ayurveda, and participation in the widely recognized Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz would create stronger engagement between India and South Africa.

“They shared their experiences on various issues and were very appreciative of India’s strides across different fields… I urged them to boost the popularity of Indian culture among the people of South Africa,” PM Modi posted on X.

Focus on Tourism, Language Promotion, and Heritage

One community leader shared that PM Modi specifically discussed initiatives promoting vernacular Indian languages, boosting tourism to India, and strengthening ancestral heritage among families that have lived in South Africa for over six generations.

With nearly 1.8 million people of Indian origin living in South Africa, Modi said this collective force could significantly shape global cultural awareness and India’s international outreach.

Spiritual leaders attending the discussion expressed admiration for PM Modi’s approach.

> Swami Acharya described the meeting as “very invigorating,” praising Modi’s inspiring leadership.
Swami Abhedananda of Chinmaya Mission South Africa added that he “felt great to openly talk to him,” noting that the interaction was meaningful and enjoyable.

Symbolic Exchange and Recognition

Modi also received a special Kalash containing Shree Anna (millets) from India and South Africa from Chinmaya Mission leaders, marking unity in agricultural and cultural heritage. He confirmed that the sacred Kalash would be placed at the Annapoorna Devi Temple in Durban, symbolizing shared prosperity.

The Prime Minister also met with winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz, an initiative designed to help diaspora youth learn more about India’s heritage, history, and achievements.

G20 Summit 2025 Agenda

The G20 Leaders’ Summit is scheduled for November 22–23 in Johannesburg, where PM Modi is also expected to hold multiple high-level bilateral meetings with global leaders focusing on cooperation, growth, sustainability, and cultural diplomacy.
