Diwali 2025 : As India gears up to celebrate the festival of lights, experts warn that Diwali 2025 could once again bring a spike in air pollution, impacting respiratory and overall health. The smoke from firecrackers, coupled with stagnant weather and rising particulate matter, can cause breathing difficulties, skin irritation, and fatigue.

Health and nutrition experts are urging citizens to make mindful lifestyle and dietary adjustments to stay safe during the festive season.
Nutrition: The First Line of Defense from Diwali 2025 pollution
Nutritionist Lavleen Kaur, Chief Dietitian and Founder of Santushti Holistic Health and Diet Insight Academy, emphasized the importance of internal detoxification.
She recommended limiting outdoor exposure during peak pollution hours and staying hydrated with herbal teas or tulsi-infused water.
“Including antioxidant-rich foods like amla, haldi milk, and ghee-roasted dry fruits helps flush out toxins and strengthen immunity” said Kaur.
Experts agree that antioxidants and anti-inflammatory foods play a crucial role in reducing the oxidative stress caused by pollution exposure.
Air Quality Precautions: Small Habits, Big Impact
According to Suresh Garg, CMD and Founder of Zeon LifeSciences, even healthy individuals can feel the effects of poor air quality during Diwali.
He advised avoiding high-smoke crackers and wearing N95 masks when stepping outdoors.
“Simple habits like consuming herbal infusions with turmeric, tulsi, or ginger can go a long way in supporting respiratory health” he added.
Lifestyle: Sleep, Exercise, and Recovery
Functional nutritionist Mugdha Pradhan, CEO and Founder of iThrive, recommended boosting vitamin C intake through citrus fruits and turmeric while ensuring adequate sleep and hydration.
She emphasized that ventilated spaces and balanced rest help the body recover naturally from pollution-related fatigue.

Meanwhile, Aman Puri, Founder of Steadfast Nutrition, advised shifting workouts indoors to protect lung health.
“Practice yoga or breathing exercises at home, use air purifiers, and include foods like turmeric, mint, and cardamom to clear mucus and ease irritation,” he said.
Noise and Skin: The Overlooked Effects
Beyond air pollution, Yashna Garg, Founder of Yugap Wellness, highlighted that festive noise can also impact health.
“Constant noise can disturb sleep, which reflects on our skin,” she said, suggesting earplugs, blackout curtains, and natural melatonin-based supplements for better rest.
A Mindful, Pollution-Free Diwali
Experts agree that a few conscious steps—nutrient-rich meals, indoor activities, and mindful rest—can help protect against pollution’s harmful effects.
By combining dietary wisdom with preventive habits, you can enjoy a healthy, radiant, and pollution-free Diwali this year.
