Record-Breaking Defence Output: India Achieves Rs 1.50 Lakh Crore Mark

In a historic achievement, India’s annual defence production has touched a record ₹1,50,590 crore in the Financial Year 2024-25, marking an 18% increase over last year’s ₹1.27 lakh crore and a massive 90% rise compared to FY 2019-20’s ₹79,071 crore.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh applauded the collaborative efforts of the Department of Defence Production, Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), public manufacturers, and private players for this milestone. He described the surge as a clear signal of India’s strengthening defence industrial base.

Sector-wise Performance

DPSUs & PSUs: Contributed around 77% of total output.

Private Sector: Increased its share from 21% in FY 2023-24 to 23% in FY 2024-25, showing strong growth momentum.

Growth Rates: DPSUs up by 16%, Private sector up by 28% in FY 2024-25.

Driving Forces
The rise is attributed to policy reforms, ease of doing business, indigenisation efforts, and the Government’s strategic push under Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Export Milestone
Defence exports hit an all-time high of ₹23,622 crore in FY 2024-25, up ₹2,539 crore (12.04%) from last year’s ₹21,083 crore, showcasing India’s expanding footprint in the global arms market.

Future Outlook
With sustained policy support, growing private participation, and increasing export potential, India’s defence production sector is set to grow further, aiming for self-reliance and global competitiveness.
