India celebrated a historic day at the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo as shooters Anuya Prasad and Pranjali Prashant Dhumal delivered a sensational gold–silver finish in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event on Monday. The day was especially memorable for Anuya, who clinched gold on her birthday while also setting a new Deaflympics final world record.

India’s shooting contingent continued its strong start at the Games, adding three more medals on Day 2 to take the overall tally to seven medals in shooting so far.

Anuya Shatters Final World Record, Pranjali Breaks Qualification Record
Anuya dominated right from the opening series, scoring 52.5 and maintaining her lead throughout the final. She sealed the gold with a score of 241.1, finishing 4.3 points ahead of compatriot Pranjali (236.8), who secured silver.
Iran’s Mahla Samiee took the bronze.
Pranjali also delivered a record-breaking performance earlier in the qualification round. She shot 572-12x, surpassing her own previous World Record (568) and the earlier Deaflympics record (561).
Abhinav Deshwal Adds Silver for India in Men’s Event
In the men’s 10m Air Pistol event, India’s Abhinav Deshwal secured the silver medal, scoring 235.2 in the final.
Korea’s Tae Young Kim won the gold with 238.2, while Croatia’s Boris Gramnyak clinched bronze with 215.3.
Abhinav also equalled the world and Deaflympics qualification world record with an impressive 576 earlier in the day. India’s Rudar Vinod Kumar finished 12th with a score of 549.

India Eyes More Medals as Mixed Teams Prepare to Compete
The Air Rifle Mixed Teams event is scheduled for Tuesday, offering India another strong opportunity to expand its medal tally. The shooting competitions are being held at the Ajinomoto National Training Center (East) in Tokyo.
India has sent a 15-member shooting contingent, including three coaches, participating across multiple men’s, women’s, and mixed events.
The squad is led by Deaflympic double gold medallist Dhanush Srikanth, accompanied by fellow medal-winners Shourya Saini and Abhinav Deshwal. The lineup also features notable World Deaf Championship medallists including Mahit Sandhu, Anuya Prasad, Pranjali Dhumal, Natasha Joshi, Chetan Sapkal, Kushagra Singh Rajawat, and Mohammed Vania — making it one of India’s strongest teams yet.
A Strong Start for India at the Deaflympics
With world records tumbling and podiums dominated by Indian shooters, the Tokyo Deaflympics 2025 has opened on a highly promising note for India. As competitions continue, India’s experienced squad is expected to push for more medals in both individual and team events.
