Daily Service to Boost Tourism and Regional Travel

According to officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the 180-seater Boeing aircraft will operate daily on this route. The flight, numbered IX 2953, will depart Bagdogra at 4:30 PM and arrive at Agartala Airport at 5:40 PM. The return flight, numbered IX 2430, will leave Agartala at 6:10 PM and reach Bagdogra at 7:20 PM.

Booking for the new route has already opened, and early demand appears strong, with travelers keen to avoid the usual detours via Kolkata or Guwahati. The new route will not only save travel time but also reduce travel costs, providing a more convenient option for both business and leisure passengers.

Connecting Tripura to North Bengal and Nepal

Bagdogra Airport serves as the gateway to North Bengal and is strategically located near Siliguri, the region’s transport and commercial hub. From there, tourists can easily reach Darjeeling, Mirik, Kalimpong, and even cross the border into Nepal.

This move by Air India Express is being hailed as a step toward regional tourism integration, encouraging travel between the North Eastern states and the eastern Himalayan belt. The direct link is expected to promote cultural and economic exchange between Tripura and North Bengal.

However, sources indicate a reshuffle in flight operations. Air India Express will reportedly discontinue its Agartala–Guwahati service, which will now be operated by IndiGo and Akasa Air. Despite this change, the introduction of the Bagdogra route is seen as a net positive, offering greater connectivity options from Tripura.

Traveler Convenience Takes Flight

Travel enthusiasts and frequent flyers have welcomed the move, noting that the direct connection to Bagdogra opens new avenues for exploring the eastern Himalayas. With daily frequency, shorter travel time, and the reliability of Air India Express, this new service promises to be a game changer for regional connectivity.
