India Wins 27 Medals at U23 Asian Wrestling:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Indian wrestlers for their exceptional performance at the 2026 U23 Asian Wrestling Championships held in Da Nang, Vietnam. India delivered a historic campaign by securing a total of 27 medals, including 11 gold, seven silver, and nine bronze medals across freestyle, women’s wrestling, and Greco-Roman categories.

The Indian contingent also achieved a major milestone with the Men’s Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling teams winning the overall team championships, marking one of India’s finest performances in the tournament’s history.

PM Modi Praises Indian Wrestlers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the wrestlers in a post on X, formerly Twitter, describing the campaign as “outstanding” and congratulating the athletes for bringing glory to the nation.
He highlighted that the Men’s Freestyle team secured nine medals, including four gold medals, recording India’s highest-ever medal haul in the U23 Asian Championships. The women’s team also delivered a dominant performance with 10 medals, including six golds, while the Greco-Roman team achieved its best-ever tally with eight medals.
The Prime Minister extended his best wishes to the athletes for their future competitions and praised their dedication and hard work.
Men’s Freestyle Team Clinches Championship Title
India’s Men’s Freestyle wrestling team emerged as the undisputed champions of the tournament, finishing ahead of strong wrestling nations Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
The team concluded the championship with four gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. Akshay T Dhere in the 57kg category and Vicky in the 97kg category won gold medals with commanding performances. Kumar Mohit (65kg) and Chandermohan (79kg) also secured gold to strengthen India’s dominance.
Deepak Rathi (61kg), Punit Kumar (92kg), and Lacky (125kg) claimed silver medals after closely contested finals. Deepak Berwal (74kg) and Mor Sachin (82kg) added bronze medals to India’s impressive tally.

Women Wrestlers Deliver Dominant Show
India’s women wrestlers continued their remarkable rise on the continental stage by winning 10 medals overall, including six gold medals.
Muskan (53kg), Tapasya (57kg), Bhagyashree (62kg), Pulkit (67kg), Mansi (68kg), and Kajal (76kg) each captured gold medals in their respective categories.
Neha and Sweety secured silver medals with strong performances, while Amruta (72kg) and Ahilya (55kg) earned bronze medals to complete India’s successful women’s campaign.
Greco-Roman Wrestlers Add to Medal Rush
The Indian Greco-Roman team also delivered a record-breaking performance by winning eight medals.
Sumit led the category with a gold medal in the 63kg division. Suraj (60kg) and Sagar Singh (67kg) won silver medals, while Neeraj Patel (55kg), Sachin (77kg), Rohit Bura (87kg), Rohit (97kg), and Hardeep (130kg) claimed bronze medals.
The outstanding performance across all categories reflects the growing strength of Indian wrestling at the international level and reinforces India’s position as a rising powerhouse in Asian wrestling.
