Vijay Stakes Claim to Form Tamil Nadu Govt:
Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay on Wednesday formally staked claim to form the next government in Tamil Nadu after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single-largest party in the recently concluded Assembly elections.

Vijay Meets Governor
Vijay arrived at Lok Bhavan to meet Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar amid heightened political activity and speculation over government formation. He was accompanied by senior TVK leaders, including ‘Bussy’ Anand, K.A. Sengottaiyan, Aadhav Arjuna, and Arun Raj.
According to sources, Vijay submitted a formal letter to the Governor seeking an invitation to form the government. He assured that the party would prove its majority on the floor of the Assembly within the stipulated time.
First Step Towards Government Formation
The meeting is being seen as the first major constitutional step toward the formation of a new government under Vijay’s leadership. Earlier, TVK legislators unanimously elected him as the leader of the legislative party, paving the way for him to stake claim.
TVK Emerges as Single-Largest Party
The development follows TVK’s remarkable debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where it secured 108 seats in the 234-member House. Despite emerging as the single-largest party, TVK fell short of the 118-seat majority mark required to form the government independently.

Alliance Talks Gain Momentum
Following the results, Vijay has been holding consultations with newly elected MLAs and senior party leaders to strategise the next steps. Political activity has intensified in Chennai, with several parties weighing their options in the post-poll scenario.
The Congress has reportedly extended conditional support to TVK, while Left parties and smaller regional outfits are expected to take a call after internal discussions. Meanwhile, the DMK, which suffered a setback in the elections, has also begun consultations after losing power after one term.
Crucial Days Ahead
Political observers believe the coming days will be critical in determining the stability and composition of the next government in Tamil Nadu. If TVK manages to secure adequate support from other parties, Vijay could soon take oath as Chief Minister.
However, failure to demonstrate a majority could open the door for alternative arrangements or further political developments in the state.
