US LPG Ship Reaches India Amid Crisis:
In a significant development amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, a major liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shipment from the United States has successfully arrived at Mangalore Port, strengthening India’s energy supply chain during a period of global uncertainty.
The LPG cargo vessel, identified as Pivxis Pioneer, transported fuel from Texas, marking a crucial step in ensuring uninterrupted domestic supply as disruptions continue to affect traditional energy routes.

Rising Supply Concerns Amid Regional Conflict
The arrival comes at a time when tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel have severely impacted maritime activity in the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz. This passage is one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes, and recent instability has raised concerns over global fuel availability.
To mitigate risks, India has diversified its sourcing strategy, increasing imports from both the United States and Russia.
Russian Oil Shipment Also Reaches Mangalore
Before the US LPG carrier docked, another vessel carrying Russian crude oil had reached the same port. The tanker was stationed approximately 18 nautical miles offshore and utilized a single-point mooring system to transfer crude oil to pipelines connected to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL).
This shipment followed a temporary general license issued by the United States, allowing the sale of Russian crude oil that had been stranded at sea as of March 12. The move is widely seen as an effort to stabilise global fuel markets amid escalating geopolitical risks.
India Boosts Russian Oil Imports
India has significantly ramped up its purchases of Russian crude in recent weeks. The decision aligns with efforts to maintain stable fuel supplies and manage price volatility caused by disruptions in Middle Eastern oil exports.
Energy analysts suggest that such diversification not only ensures supply continuity but also provides India with strategic leverage in global energy markets.

Hazardous Routes and Maritime Monitoring
Earlier this week, Indian-flagged LPG tankers Nanda Devi and Shivalik also delivered supplies to ports on India’s west coast, navigating through high-risk zones in the Persian Gulf.
According to officials, at least 22 Indian-flagged vessels with over 600 Indian seafarers remain in the region. Authorities, including the Directorate General of Shipping, are closely monitoring their safety in coordination with international agencies and Indian missions abroad.
