PM Modi Announces 175M Package for Seychelles:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced a special economic package worth $175 million for Seychelles, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two maritime nations. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

Calling development partnership a “strong foundation” of India-Seychelles relations, PM Modi said the new package will support concrete projects across key sectors including social housing, e-mobility, vocational training, health, defence, and maritime security.

Focus on Development and Youth Empowerment
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that India’s development cooperation with Seychelles has always been aligned with the island nation’s priorities.
“All our efforts have been based on Seychelles’ priorities and needs. Moving forward in this direction, today we are announcing a Special Economic Package of $175 million,” he said.
According to the Prime Minister, the initiatives under this package are expected to generate employment opportunities and boost skill development, particularly for the youth of Seychelles.
India’s Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme has already contributed significantly to capacity building in Seychelles. An MoU was also signed for the training of Seychelles civil servants in India, further deepening institutional cooperation.

Expanding Economic and Digital Cooperation
The two leaders agreed to explore new avenues to strengthen economic collaboration. PM Modi noted that India and Seychelles will advance cooperation in fintech and digital solutions, while also promoting trade in local currencies.
“The ties between India and Seychelles are not limited to diplomatic contact. The waves of the Indian Ocean have connected our people for centuries,” Modi said, highlighting the historical and cultural bonds between the two countries.
Strategic Role in MAHASAGAR Vision
PM Modi described Seychelles as an integral partner in India’s MAHASAGAR Vision, underscoring the strategic importance of the Indian Ocean region.
“As a maritime neighbour and trusted partner, Seychelles is an integral part of India’s MAHASAGAR Vision. Our cooperation encompasses land, sea, and air,” he stated.
President Patrick Herminie’s visit holds special significance as Seychelles celebrates its 50th Independence Day this year, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Welcoming President Herminie on his first official visit to India after assuming office, PM Modi expressed confidence that the milestone year would propel bilateral ties to new heights.
