Sharing details on social media platform X, S Jaishankar described the interaction as productive, highlighting the growing momentum in India–Canada relations.

Focus on Expanding Cooperation

In his post, EAM S Jaishankar said, “A fruitful conversation with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand this morning. Discussed the deepening of our bilateral cooperation and continued high-level exchanges.”

The exchange comes amid renewed diplomatic engagement between the two countries following a period of strain. Relations have steadily improved since Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in June 2025.

Subsequently, both nations reinstated their high commissioners and unveiled a shared roadmap for future collaboration, signalling a clear intent to reset ties.

Roadmap for Future Engagement

The roadmap was announced during Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand’s visit to India from October 12 to 14, 2025, laying the foundation for cooperation in areas such as trade, technology, education, and innovation.
Further reinforcing this momentum, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met David Eby, Premier of British Columbia, on January 17 to explore ways to deepen economic engagement.

Economic, Trade and Technology Focus

Following the meeting, Goyal stated that discussions centred on strengthening the India–Canada economic partnership and advancing trade and investment cooperation.
Key areas identified for collaboration included:

• Critical minerals

• Manufacturing

• Clean energy

• Technology and innovation

• Education and defence

“We reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement to unlock new opportunities and deepen the ties between both nations,” Goyal said.
