PM POSHAN Scheme Serves Fresh Meals:
The Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) scheme, launched by the Union government to provide hot and nutritious meals to children up to Class 8 in Anganwadi centres and government-run schools, is making a visible impact in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh, according to local reports.

At a government-run Sandipani Vidyalaya (earlier known as CM RISE School) in Tendukheda village, students were seen sitting in long queues, enjoying freshly prepared meals that included pudi, sabzi and dal, reflecting the scheme’s goal of ensuring both nutrition and regular school attendance.

Children Express Happiness Over Daily Hot Meals
The positive impact of the scheme was evident from the reactions of students themselves. A Class 5 student, said that the availability of good food motivates children to attend school regularly.
“Yahan achha khana milta hai. Isliye hum roj school aate hain,” she said, adding that they were enjoying pudi-sabzi and dal on the day.
Several other students also expressed happiness over receiving different hot meals every day, as per the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) menu, which is mandatory for all government schools in the state for students up to Class 8.
Teachers Ensure Menu, Hygiene and Quality
Madan Singh Lodhi, a teacher at Sandipani Vidyalaya, said that meals are served daily on school days strictly according to the menu fixed by the state government.
“Saturday’s menu is pudi, sabzi and tur dal. We ensure that the food menu decided under the Mid-Day Meal scheme is followed every day,” he told.
He further explained that the food is prepared by women from a self-help group, adding that special care is taken to maintain freshness, hygiene and cleanliness while serving meals within the school premises.
Whenever any issue arises, the school management promptly informs the district administration, he said.

Boosting Nutrition and School Participation
The PM POSHAN scheme aims to provide nutritional support to children while also enhancing school participation and attendance, particularly in rural and economically weaker regions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM POSHAN scheme along with the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar’ initiative during his visit to Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh on September 17, coinciding with his birthday.
During the visit, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for India’s first PM MITRA Park in Bhainsola village, aimed at strengthening the textile sector under the 5F Vision — Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Factory, Factory to Fashion, and Fashion to Foreign.
Visible Impact at the Grassroots Level
The success of the PM POSHAN scheme in Damoh highlights how nutritional support, community participation through self-help groups, and strict monitoring can collectively improve the learning environment in government schools, while ensuring children receive fresh and wholesome food every day.
