70th Mahaparinirvan Diwas:
The 70th Mahaparinirvan Diwas, marking the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, was observed with deep respect and solemnity on Saturday at Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala. The event was organized by the SC Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, to honour the architect of the Indian Constitution and a global icon of social justice.

Senior dignitaries including Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, and other officials participated in the ceremony and offered floral tributes at Ambedkar’s statue.

Governor Highlights Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Vision of Equality
Addressing the gathering, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu emphasized Dr. Ambedkar’s extraordinary intellect and his remarkable contribution to shaping modern India.
He stated that Ambedkar was entrusted with leading the drafting of the Constitution “not because he belonged to the Scheduled Caste community, but because of his vast knowledge, legal expertise, and commitment to democratic values for all.”
The Governor praised Ambedkar’s advocacy of universal adult franchise, noting that while many nations limited voting rights to select groups, India ensured the right to vote for every citizen above 18 years without discrimination.
> “Ambedkar gave India a Constitution that is one of the best in the world,” the Governor said, adding that the government continues to implement policies aligned with the Constitution to protect the rights of marginalized communities.

‘Chief Architect of Modern India,’ says Minister Sudhangshu Das
SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das called Dr. Ambedkar a visionary leader, economist, social reformer and nation-builder whose ideas laid the foundation for an egalitarian society.
He reminded that December 6 is observed annually as Mahaparinirvan Diwas to honour the leader’s demise and enduring struggle for equality, justice, and human rights.
> “His sacrifice in drafting the world’s largest democratic Constitution and shaping a progressive India is undeniable,” Das added.
He also reiterated the department’s efforts in ensuring timely delivery of welfare schemes to Scheduled Castes and the most disadvantaged groups across Tripura.
Ceremony Marks Tribute to Ambedkar’s Legacy
The programme included garlanding of the statue, floral offerings, and speeches reflecting on Ambedkar’s mission to eradicate caste discrimination and empower the oppressed. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to Ambedkar’s ideals of equality, justice, liberty, and fraternity.
Mahaparinirvan Diwas continues to remind the nation of its responsibility to uphold constitutional values and work towards inclusive growth.
