Agartala, November 15: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has said that the state government will positively consider introducing spices produced by cooperative societies and self-help groups (SHGs) in Fair Price Shops (FPS) across Tripura.
The Chief Minister made the remark on Friday while inaugurating the 72nd All India Cooperative Week and the Cooperative Fair at the Purbasha Mela Ground. The event was jointly organised by the Cooperative Department and the Tripura State Cooperative Union.

Cooperatives Showcase Local Products
After the formal inauguration, the Chief Minister, along with Cooperative Minister Shukla Charan Noatia , Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, and other dignitaries, visited various stalls set up by cooperative societies.
During his visit to the stall of Samriddhi Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society, the Chief Minister observed a wide range of locally produced items such as:
- Spices
- Pickles
- Candles
- Other value-added agricultural products
Members of the Samriddhi MPACS appealed to the Chief Minister to initiate steps so that spices produced by cooperatives and SHGs can be supplied through ration shops, allowing common people to access quality local products at affordable prices.
CM Responds Positively to Request
Responding to their appeal, the Chief Minister assured, “We will discuss this matter and examine the possibility.”
His assurance sparked hope among members of cooperative societies and SHGs across the state, as inclusion of their products in ration shops could significantly boost rural income, expand market access, and strengthen the cooperative economy.
Expectations Rise Among Cooperative Members
Following the Chief Minister’s assurance, cooperative and SHG members expressed optimism that their products may soon reach households statewide through the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Such an initiative would also support the government’s vision of promoting local production, self-reliance, and sustainable rural livelihoods.
