Honouring Birsa Munda’s Legacy

Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi recalled the courageous life of Birsa Munda, who led a historic movement against British colonial rule and sacrificed his life at the age of 25. “Inspired by Dharti Aaba’s ideals, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared November 15 as Tribal Pride Day, celebrating the strength and spirit of India’s tribal communities,” he said.

The Chief Minister paid floral tributes to Birsa Munda’s statue and lauded the cultural performances by tribal artists from Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.

Nationwide Celebration of Janjati Gaurav Pakhwada

The event is part of the Janjati Gaurav Pakhwada (November 1–15), a national initiative to integrate tribal communities into the mainstream with respect and opportunity.

More than 22 states — including Gujarat, Odisha, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Jharkhand, and partner state Arunachal Pradesh — are participating in this grand festival. It also features handicraft and art exhibitions, a food fair, and a literary forum dedicated to tribal heritage and development.

Empowerment Through Education and Development

Highlighting the progress made in tribal welfare, CM Yogi stated that education levels among tribal communities have risen significantly, improving access to government schemes. Citing the recruitment of 60,244 police personnel, he said all posts reserved for Scheduled Tribes were successfully filled — “a clear sign of rising participation and empowerment.”

Under the Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, the government has identified 517 villages across 26 districts to be equipped with modern amenities. These villages are being linked with key welfare schemes such as Aadhaar, Ayushman Bharat, PM Ujjwala Yojana, Kisan Credit Card, PM Vishwakarma Yojana, and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.

Expanding Educational Opportunities

Emphasizing education, CM Yogi said over 1.5 lakh tribal students have benefited from scholarships and fee reimbursements. Currently, nine Ashram Vidyalayas are operational in districts including Lakhimpur Kheri, Balrampur, Bahraich, and Bijnor, providing education to more than 2,000 students.

Additionally, Eklavya Model Residential Schools are functioning in Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, and Sonbhadra, with another set to open in Lalitpur. Free uniforms and bicycles are being provided to non-residential tribal girls in classes 6, 9, and 11 to encourage school attendance.

Celebrating Tribal Heritage and Progress

Through the Janjati Bhagidari Utsav, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to showcase the state’s commitment to inclusive growth, cultural preservation, and educational advancement among tribal communities. The festival stands as a vibrant symbol of unity in diversity and a tribute to Birsa Munda’s enduring legacy.
