Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday officially launched mascot Jalveer and the official logo of the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship 2025 in New Delhi. The prestigious continental event will be hosted in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from September 28 to October 11, 2025, marking the first time India will stage this championship.

The launch ceremony saw the presence of key officials from the Swimming Federation of India (SFI), including Secretary General Monal Chokshi, Senior Vice President Virendra Nanavati, and Vice Presidents Anil Vyas, Rajkumar Gupta, and Anil Khatri.

Ahmedabad to Host Over 30 Nations

The 11th edition of the championship will witness participation from over 30 nations and 1,000 athletes across four aquatic disciplines: Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, and Artistic Swimming. The tournament will be staged at the newly built Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, a state-of-the-art venue constructed to Olympic specifications.

Logo & Mascot: A Blend of Culture and Sport

The championship logo creatively merges sporting spirit with Gujarat’s cultural identity. It features the , native to Gujarat, designed in vibrant hues that reflect national pride and Indian tradition. Within the lion’s mane, dynamic icons represent the four aquatic disciplines, symbolising energy, inclusiveness, and athletic excellence.

The mascot, Jalveer, was also unveiled, embodying the courage, agility, and enthusiasm of aquatic athletes.

A Milestone for Indian Aquatics

Speaking at the launch, Minister Mandaviya said:

“It was a pleasure to launch the logo and mascot Jalveer for the 11th Asian Aquatics Championships. This championship is a historic milestone for Indian aquatics, giving our athletes a chance to compete with Asia’s best on home soil.”

He congratulated the Swimming Federation of India and the Government of Gujarat for their joint efforts in bringing the event to India for the first time.

Gateway to Asian Games 2026

The Asian Aquatics Championship 2025 also carries an added incentive—it will serve as a qualifying event for the 2026 Asian Games. According to SFI officials, this will give Indian athletes a rare chance to earn direct qualification in front of their home crowd.

RN Jayaprakash of SFI noted:

The infrastructure is world-class. Hosting this event provides Indian swimmers home-ground advantage, exposure to elite competition, and a pathway to Asian Games qualification.”

Strengthening India’s Sporting Vision


SFI Secretary General Monal Chokshi highlighted the long-term benefits of hosting the championship:

“The event will help popularise aquatic sports in India, strengthen athlete development, and showcase Ahmedabad as a global sporting destination. It also aligns with Gujarat’s vision of hosting the 2036 Olympic Games.

The Government of Gujarat has been making major investments in international-standard infrastructure, including the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave and the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex. Successfully hosting the Asian Aquatics Championship will add weight to India’s aspirations to bid for mega sporting events like the 2030 Commonwealth Games and 2036 Olympics.
