The festive spirit of Bengali cinema is back, and this time it’s riding on the success of Dhoomketu. Starring superstar Dev and Subhasree Gangopadhyay, the Kaushik Gangopadhyay directorial has set the box office on fire, crossing the ₹7 crore mark in just three days.
Released across multiple cinema halls, the film witnessed a dream run through the weekend. On Sunday, considered a festive day by the team itself, the film clocked ₹1.87 crore at the box office. This pushed its total collection to an impressive ₹7 crore in three days, making it one of the strongest openers in the history of Bengali cinema.
What’s more, Dhoomketu registered housefull shows in 350 theatres simultaneously, a rare feat that has given much-needed relief and hope to the Bengali film industry.
Dev and team thank the audience
Superstar Dev took to social media to express his gratitude. In a heartfelt post on Sunday morning, he thanked moviegoers for making Dhoomketu a historic success.
“Thank you for creating a new history of Bengali cinema,” he wrote, sharing the joy with fans who have been flooding theatres since the film’s release.

A strong opening against tough competition
Dhoomketu’s performance is even more remarkable considering the competition it faced. Bollywood’s War 2 and South Indian big release Coolie had dominated headlines, but Dhoomketu held its ground.
Day 1: ₹2.10 crore
Day 2: ₹3.02 crore
Day 3: ₹1.87 crore
Total (3 days): ₹7 crore
The film not only matched but surpassed expectations, proving the strength of Bengali content when backed by powerful storytelling and star power.
A milestone for Bengali cinema
The film’s roaring success is being seen as a turning point for the regional industry. In an era where Bengali films often struggle to hold screen space against Bollywood and South releases, Dhoomketu has shown that the audience is ready to celebrate homegrown stories when packaged with the right mix of emotions, performances, and spectacle.
Industry insiders believe this momentum could help revive the box office run for upcoming Bengali films, setting a new benchmark for what is possible with strong local content.
As Dev and Subhasree continue to win hearts with their performances, and Kaushik Gangopadhyay enjoys the fruits of his storytelling, one thing is clear—‘Dhoomketu’ fever has gripped Bengal, and the journey has only just begun.
