The sacred festival of Shri Krishna Janmashtami 2025 is being celebrated with grandeur across the country today, with the spiritual centres of Mathura and Vrindavan witnessing an overwhelming turnout of devotees. By evening, more than 25 lakh devotees had paid obeisance at Lord Krishna’s birthplace in Mathura, while around 10 lakh devotees thronged Vrindavan, creating an atmosphere of deep devotion and festivity.

At the revered Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple, Thakur Ji was adorned in a specially crafted attire prepared by Mathura artisans over the span of six months. The magnificent dress has been woven with gold and silver threads and incorporates the seven colors of the rainbow, symbolizing divine grace and prosperity.
Banke Bihari Temple Witnesses Long Queues
In Vrindavan, the famous Banke Bihari Temple has been witnessing long queues of devotees since early morning. Despite the rush, the excitement of having darshan of Shri Krishna is keeping the spiritual fervour high. Devotees, many of whom have traveled from different parts of the country, are chanting bhajans and shlokas, adding to the divine ambiance.
Janmabhoomi Temple Decorated on ‘Operation Sindoor’ Theme
The Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple complex has been decorated with a unique theme of ‘Operation Sindoor’ this year. The temple premises are covered with a magnificent flower bungalow, where Thakur Ji is seated amidst vermilion-colored flowers specially brought from Kolkata and Bengaluru. The fragrance of flowers and the divine chants have created an enchanting devotional aura.
Devotional Fervour Across the Nation
While Mathura and Vrindavan remain the spiritual epicenters of Janmashtami, celebrations are being observed across India with equal enthusiasm. Temples have been illuminated with decorative lights, devotees are fasting, and special Rasleela programs are being performed to mark the divine birth of Lord Krishna.
The administration in Mathura-Vrindavan has deployed additional police forces and volunteers to manage the huge inflow of devotees and ensure smooth darshan. Arrangements for drinking water, resting zones, and medical assistance have also been made for pilgrims.
Significance of Janmashtami
Shri Krishna Janmashtami marks the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is revered as the destroyer of evil and the symbol of love, compassion, and dharma. The celebrations peak at midnight with the symbolic birth of Krishna, followed by bhajans, kirtans, and devotional rituals.
As the night of Janmashtami unfolds, the spiritual cities of Mathura and Vrindavan are echoing with chants of “Jai Shri Krishna”, making this year’s celebrations truly memorable for devotees from around the world.
