Russian NHL legend Alex Ovechkin is set to have his remarkable hockey journey turned into a biopic, documentary, or series, thanks to a new partnership with Russian tech giant Yandex and its streaming arm Kinopoisk.

The announcement, made on Tuesday, revealed that Yandex’s content arm Plus Studio has secured the rights to adapt Ovechkin’s life and record-breaking hockey career. With 897 career goals to date and after surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record this spring, Ovechkin’s legacy is more prominent than ever.
The upcoming biopic will delve into his journey from playing in Russian leagues (now known as the KHL) to becoming the face of the Washington Capitals, where he has played since 2005 after being selected first overall in the 2004 NHL Draft.
Ovechkin, who turns 40 next month, is also expected to be featured in promotional materials and serve as an ambassador for Yandex as part of the deal.
