“The only mistake I made in my life is growing fast in politics,” Prajwal Revanna told the court emotionally, alleging the case was orchestrated for political gain.

Prajwal Revanna, who returned from Germany on May 31 last year after the allegations surfaced, lost the Hassan Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 elections. His conviction has come as a major blow to the JD(S) and the Gowda family’s political legacy.

According to court records, the case in which Prajwal Revanna was convicted involves the sexual assault of a woman employed as domestic help at the family’s farmhouse in Gannikada, Hassan. The alleged incident occurred in 2021 and was reportedly filmed by the accused.

During his plea for a lighter sentence, Prajwal Revanna questioned the timing of the allegations.

He also mentioned that he had not met his parents or family for six months and urged the court to consider his background as a BE Mechanical Engineering graduate who had always excelled on merit.

The prosecution, however, has demanded a life sentence, citing the severity and premeditation of the crime.

The special court is expected to pronounce the sentence later today, even as three other cases of rape and sexual harassment remain pending against Revanna.
