Agartala, August 2,2025 – The sudden and Mysterious Death of 19-year-old Shiuli Debnath, a young bride from Gokulnagar, has triggered widespread concern and outrage over the ongoing practice of teenage marriages in rural India.

According to local sources, Shiuli was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws’ residence. Shockingly, she had been married to Raju Debnath, a 32-year-old man, when she was just 16 years old—raising serious questions about the legality and ethics of the union.

Family members revealed that marital tensions surfaced barely two months into the marriage, leading Shiuli to return to her parental home. She stayed there for 11 months, reportedly traumatized, before being sent back to her husband’s house following a mutual family settlement.
Investigation Underway
Local police have registered a case and begun questioning the husband and his family. Forensic teams have been deployed to examine the scene and conduct a post-mortem.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear. While her in-laws claim it was a natural death, Shiuli’s family suspects foul play and has demanded a thorough investigation. Locals are also pressing for legal action, especially given the alleged history of abuse and the fact that she was a minor at the time of her marriage.
