15-Year-Old Detained in Punjab for Alleged Spying:
In a serious security-related development, Punjab Police have detained a 15-year-old boy from Pathankot for allegedly engaging in espionage activities and sharing confidential and sensitive information with handlers based in Pakistan, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The minor, a resident of Samba district in Jammu, is accused of supplying critical data related to India’s security establishment to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and associated terror-linked front organisations over the past year.

Sensitive Military Information Shared via Social Media
According to police officials, the boy allegedly used social media platforms and messaging applications to transmit photographs and information about sensitive military locations. During preliminary investigation, chat histories, call records and digital evidence were recovered from his mobile phone, indicating sustained contact with Pakistan-based handlers.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Daljinder Singh Dhillon, posted in Pathankot, said the police acted on specific intelligence inputs before taking the minor into custody.
“We received information that the boy was supplying security-related data to frontal organisations of terror agencies, ISI and Pakistan military officers,” SSP Dhillon told the media.
Emotional Vulnerability Exploited, Police Say
Officials revealed that the boy was emotionally vulnerable, believing that his father had been murdered. This suspicion reportedly affected his mental state and made him susceptible to manipulation by foreign handlers.
Police said Pakistani agencies allegedly exploited his emotional condition and gradually drew him into espionage activities through online communication.

Not Acting Alone, Wider Network Suspected
During questioning, investigators found indications that the minor may not have been acting alone. Authorities suspect that several other children could also be in contact with ISI operatives, raising alarm across security agencies.
As a precautionary measure, alerts have been issued to police stations across Punjab, instructing officers to remain vigilant and identify any similar cases involving minors.
Growing Concern Over Recruitment of Minors
The incident has triggered serious concern within Indian security agencies. Officials fear that Pakistan’s ISI may be increasingly targeting young and impressionable individuals, particularly minors, for espionage-related activities.
A senior Punjab Police officer admitted that this emerging trend could pose a significant national security risk, especially given the widespread access of children to smartphones and social media platforms.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are focusing on identifying the full extent of the network while ensuring legal and child-protection protocols are followed.
