According to reports, Garg developed breathing difficulties during a scuba diving session in Singapore. Despite being given CPR on the spot and rushed to the Singapore General Hospital, doctors declared him dead in the ICU around 2:30 PM IST.

He was in Singapore to participate in the North East Festival and was scheduled to perform today, making the news even more devastating for his fans and the Assamese community worldwide.

A Multifaceted Talent

Zubeen Garg was more than just a playback singer—he was a singer-songwriter, composer, music director, lyricist, actor, filmmaker, poet, and philanthropist. Starting his musical journey at the young age of three, Garg released his first Assamese album Anamika in 1992.

He went on to deliver a number of hit Assamese albums including Maya, Zubeenor Gaan, Xabda, Pakhi, Shishu, and Jantra. His versatility allowed him to cross regional boundaries and become a well-recognized voice in Bollywood.

His Hindi playback career included contributions to films like Dil Se, Vaastav, Fiza, Asoka, Kaante, Gangster, and Krrish 3. His chartbuster “Ya Ali” from Gangster (2006) became an anthem and established him as a pan-India sensation.
