In a major development in the ongoing investigation into the death of iconic Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday arrested two of his Personal Security Officers (PSOs) — identified as Nandeshwar Bora and Paresh Baishya — bringing the total number of arrests in the case to seven.

The two PSOs were taken into five days’ police custody after being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had sought a 14-day custody for further interrogation, but the court granted five.

Financial Irregularities Uncovered

According to sources, both PSOs were suspended on October 7 following allegations of serious financial irregularities. The CID, which had been questioning them for the past four days, reportedly discovered large financial transactions worth several crores of rupees linked to the duo’s bank accounts.

Investigators found ₹70 lakh transferred to the account of Nandeshwar Bora and around ₹40 lakh in Paresh Baishya’s account, allegedly through digital payment channels. Authorities suspect that the money may have belonged to Zubeen Garg and could have been misappropriated.

Officials said the SIT is now investigating whether the two PSOs had any direct involvement in handling Zubeen Garg’s finances or played any role in diverting funds. The latest arrests are expected to shed light on the financial aspects surrounding the singer’s mysterious death.

Earlier Arrests and Case Background

Earlier this week, Assam Police officer Sandipan Garg, the singer’s cousin and a Deputy Superintendent in the Assam Police Service, was arrested and remanded to seven days’ police custody.

Sandipan had accompanied Zubeen Garg to Singapore on September 19 to attend the Northeast India Music Festival. The singer tragically died while swimming in the sea during a private yacht party in Singapore.

Authorities are probing whether the circumstances surrounding the trip and the subsequent financial trail have any direct connection to the singer’s untimely death.

Public Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

The death of Zubeen Garg — one of Assam’s most beloved cultural icons — has sent shockwaves across the region. Fans continue to demand a transparent and thorough investigation into the case.

With the CID tightening its probe and more arrests expected, the case appears to be entering a critical phase. Officials believe the financial clues uncovered could be instrumental in understanding the broader circumstances that led to the tragedy.
