In a major anti-narcotics operation, Amtali police on Tuesday evening detained a woman and seized 21 grams of brown sugar from her residence in the Motinagar area of West Tripura district.
The accused, identified as Mina Begum, was found in possession of the narcotics, estimated to be worth around ₹1 lakh in the illicit market. The raid was conducted jointly by Amtali police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel based on a specific intelligence input.
Speaking to reporters, Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das confirmed that a case has been registered under Case No. 77/2025, invoking Sections 21(B), 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Mina Begum was produced before a local court on Thursday evening, where the police sought custody for further interrogation.
Authorities have also identified Shoaib Mia, a resident of Gabardi, as a co-accused in the case. He is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.
The police have intensified surveillance and are actively pursuing leads to curb the illegal drug trade in the region.
