In a commendable citizen-service initiative, the West Agartala Police Station on Monday handed over 30 recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners. The devices had been stolen in various incidents registered over the past few months across West Tripura district.
The recovery operation was executed under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rana Chatterjee, with close supervision from Superintendent of Police (SP) Namit Pathak and the Additional SP. The formal handover ceremony took place at the West Agartala Police Station premises in the presence of police officials and beneficiaries.

According to officials, out of the total recovered handsets, 16 were traced through the Central IMEI Register (CIR) system — a digital database that helps law enforcement agencies track and identify stolen devices efficiently.
CIR System Helps Police Trace Stolen Devices
OC Rana Chatterjee revealed that the investigation team has also identified a gang involved in multiple theft and robbery cases. “We have booked the suspects under relevant sections of law and will continue our efforts to dismantle such networks in the coming days,” he said.
West Agartala Police Emphasize Citizen-Centric Policing
SP Namit Pathak highlighted that the initiative aims to strengthen public confidence and improve citizen-police cooperation. “Today, at the West Police Station, we handed over 30 stolen mobile phones to their rightful owners after recovering them. Out of these, 16 were traced using the Central IMEI Register (CIR). We hope to continue extending even greater assistance to the public in the future,” Pathak said.

BSF Apprehends 21 Illegal Infiltrators in Separate Operation
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier apprehended 21 illegal infiltrators, including 11 Bangladeshi nationals and 10 Rohingya migrants, from different locations across Tripura on Sunday.
Based on specific intelligence inputs, BSF teams detected suspicious movement at Agartala Railway Station, where 11 individuals were found to have illegally entered India and were planning to travel further inland.
The BSF confirmed in a press release that legal proceedings have been initiated as per established protocols.
Public Praise for Swift Police & BSF Action
Both the West Agartala Police and the BSF have received public appreciation for their swift and coordinated actions that reinforce safety and order in the region.
As technology like the CIR tracking system continues to empower police forces, residents can expect stronger mechanisms against theft, infiltration, and organized crime in Tripura.
