Lucknow Lions continued their impressive run in the Uttar Pradesh Kabaddi League (UPKL) Season 2, starting the New Year with a commanding 48–33 victory over Awadh Ramdoots at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Thursday. The match marked the opening contest of Day 8 of the league and showcased Lucknow’s all-round dominance once again.
Regarded as one of the most balanced teams in the competition, Lucknow Lions combined clinical raiding and disciplined defence to control the match from start to finish.

Shivam Chaudhary Leads From the Front
The first half belonged firmly to Lucknow Lions, with young raider Shivam Chaudhary delivering a standout performance. Displaying excellent timing and composure, Shivam consistently breached the Awadh defence, scoring 10 points from just eight raids.
His aggressive yet calculated raiding never allowed Awadh Ramdoots to find their rhythm, putting them under sustained pressure early in the game.
Defensive Discipline Sets the Tone
Lucknow’s defensive unit complemented the raiders perfectly. Staying compact and alert, the defenders forced repeated errors from Awadh Ramdoots and capitalised on opportunities to inflict two all-outs.
The combined pressure from raids and tackles saw Lucknow Lions establish a commanding 13-point lead at halftime, firmly asserting their dominance.
Key Phase Turns the Match
Awadh Ramdoots showed greater urgency after the break and attempted to stage a comeback by attacking gaps in Lucknow’s defence. However, Shivam Chaudhary once again halted their momentum with a crucial raid that yielded three points, swinging the match back in Lucknow’s favour.
One of the defining moments came when Lucknow Lions were temporarily reduced to just three players on the mat. Despite the numerical disadvantage, they displayed remarkable composure, reorganising quickly and successfully avoiding an all-out. This phase proved pivotal, draining Awadh’s confidence and reinforcing Lucknow’s control over the contest.

As the match entered its closing stages, Lucknow Lions slowed the tempo intelligently, managing the game with maturity and ensuring there were no late surprises. They eventually sealed a comprehensive 48–33 win, continuing their strong momentum in UPKL Season 2.

Later on Day 8, Yamuna Yoddhas faced Kashi Kings, Gazab Ghaziabad took on Purvanchal Panthers, and Kanpur Warriors clashed with Brij Stars.
Earlier, Day 7 featured three contrasting encounters. Gazab Ghaziabad defeated Sangam Challengers 38–33, led by captain Uday Dabas’ impressive 23-point performance. Yamuna Yoddhas registered the most emphatic win, overpowering Kanpur Warriors 51–32, with Ritik Sharma scoring 16 points. The day concluded with ID Noida Ninjas edging Aligarh Tigers 38–36 in a tense finish.
