Agartala, September 14: Tripura has achieved another significant milestone in organic agricultural production. On Monday, approximately 5,000 organically grown aromatic lemons—produced by the Jalja Farmer Producer Company (FPC) under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER)—were dispatched to the Kolkata market.
The consignment was flagged off from the MOVCDNER office premises in the AD Nagar area of the capital by Sri Apurba Roy, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Tripura. Also present were Sri Rajib Debbarma, Mission Director of the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency (TSOFDA); Sri Sanjib Debbarma, Deputy Director (West District) of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare; Assistant Directors Smt Rakhi Debbarma and MsvMaitri Guha; as well as members of various state FPCs and service provider officials. These lemons were cultivated using organic methods, and the shipment aims to expand the market for organic agricultural products from Northeast India into Kolkata. This initiative enables organic produce from Tripura’s farmers to reach large markets outside the state, ensuring financial benefits for the farmers while simultaneously promoting the state’s organic agriculture on a global scale.
Additionally, a review meeting was held with members of various FPCs to discuss future plans regarding crop selection and the extent of land to be cultivated by each FPC. This program was organized through the joint initiative of the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation and the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency.
