Speaking at the inauguration of a 132 KV power substation at Manu in Dhalai district, the minister highlighted the progress achieved since 2018, when the state generated only 3 MW from solar energy. “In the last seven years, we have produced 29 MW of electricity from solar energy. Now, the target is to add 150 MW of Solar Power by installing solar panels in 50,000 homes and reaching 10 lakh consumers,” Nath said.

All Government Offices to Run on Solar Power

The minister also declared that all government departments in Tripura will be brought under solar energy within the next two months, reducing dependency on gas-based generation.

“Gas reserves are depleting, and our existing plants in Rukhiya, Palatana, and Ramachandranagar are facing generation shortages. To ensure long-term sustainability, solar power is our future,” Nath stated.

Power Infrastructure Expansion

Tripura has witnessed major upgrades in its power infrastructure since 2018:

  • Consumers: Increased from 7.21 lakh to 10.38 lakh.
  • 132 kV Substations: Rose from 12 to 20, with two more under construction.
  • 33 kV Substations: Increased from 44 to 75, with 18 more underway.
  • Underground cables: Expanded from 95 km to 571 km.

The newly commissioned Manu substation will benefit 21,554 families across areas like Manu, Chhailengta, SK Para, Dhumachara, Machli, 82 Mile, Nepal Tila, Chamnu, Bagchhara, Manikpur, and Thalchhara.

Development for All

Nath stressed that electricity is a core indicator of development.

“Whoever the person is, whatever the political party, development should be for everyone. No one can survive without electricity. As the demand for electricity increases, it shows the state is moving towards development,” he said.

He urged consumers to notify the department before adding new electronic appliances, so transformer capacities can be upgraded accordingly.

Leaders Present

The inauguration program was attended by TTAADC MDCs Bimalkanti Chakma and Sanjay Das, MLAs Paul Danshu and Shambhulal Chakma, General Manager (Transmission), and social workers Sanjit Debbarma, Ratish Tripura, Abhijit Tripura, and Joy Bahadur Rupini.
