As per official confirmation, the Lok Bhavan will remain open to visitors from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM every Saturday, allowing people a rare opportunity to explore the ceremonial heart of the state.

Raj Bhavan Renamed Lok Bhavan on Central Directives

The renaming of Raj Bhavan to Lok Bhavan was carried out following directives from the Central Government, symbolising a shift towards people-centric governance. For decades, public entry into the premises remained highly restricted, making the building a subject of curiosity and fascination among residents.

Governor Nallu’s initiative is being seen as an effort to bridge the gap between the constitutional head of the state and the common people.

Visitor Entry Rules and Weekly Limit

According to information released by the Lok Bhavan authorities, a total of 75 visitors will be allowed entry every Saturday, divided into three batches of 25 people each. Visitors will be permitted to explore the premises within the stipulated time window under strict security supervision.

Officials said identity verification and basic security checks will be mandatory for all visitors before entry.

Earlier Road Closure Triggered Public Criticism

A few months ago, the road in front of Raj Bhavan was temporarily closed to pedestrians for security reasons, causing inconvenience to morning and evening walkers. The decision triggered sharp criticism from the public and civil society groups. Following public pressure, the road was later reopened.

The opening of Lok Bhavan to citizens is now being viewed as a corrective step towards restoring public trust and accessibility.

Low Turnout on Opening Day Due to Limited Awareness

Despite the historic nature of the initiative, public turnout on the opening day remained minimal, mainly due to lack of wide publicity. Officials, however, expect the footfall to increase in the coming weeks as awareness spreads across the state.

Authorities have indicated that steps will be taken to improve public communication so that more people can take advantage of the opportunity.

A New Chapter in Public Engagement

The opening of Lok Bhavan marks a new chapter in Tripura’s governance culture, offering citizens direct access to a space that was once out of bounds. The move is expected to strengthen people’s connection with constitutional institutions and promote openness in administration.
