Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said the matter would be discussed with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, following his recent visit to North Tripura, where he stayed overnight on Saturday and Sunday.

Ground Inspection Reveals Genuine Grievances

Dr. Saha said the issue came to his attention after receiving multiple complaints from local residents and transporters. During his visit, he personally inspected the Churaibari check post and found the grievances to be genuine.

“The situation on the ground is different from what is understood by sitting in an office. I visited the spot and found that the complaints were true,” the Chief Minister said.

He added that he has directed the administration to immediately rectify the issues and ordered strict action against any irregularities.

“The government does not want such problems. If the issues are not resolved, further steps will be taken,” he said.

Congestion Due to Limited Space on Assam Side

Highlighting the challenges faced at the border, Dr. Saha pointed out that there is also a checking point on the Assam side, but limited space often causes vehicles to get stuck, leading to severe congestion.
He said he would raise the issue with the Assam government to explore possibilities of expanding and developing the area to ensure hassle-free movement of vehicles while maintaining proper checks.

The Chief Minister also indicated that the matter would be raised in the plenary session, underlining its importance.

Environmental Concerns Over Stone Crushing Units

Dr. Saha expressed serious concern over stone crushing units operating near the check post, stating that he had received complaints regarding environmental violations.
“The environment there was in very bad condition. As per rules, stone crushing units should be at least 100 metres away from the National Highway,” he said.
He added that many of these units were reportedly set up during the Left Front period and were not properly monitored. A meeting will be convened to ensure strict regulation and compliance with environmental norms.

Overloaded Trucks and Enforcement Lapses

During the inspection, the Chief Minister also observed several trucks overloaded with stones, highlighting the need for reforms and stricter enforcement of transport rules.
On his orders, vehicles stationed at the check post were inspected based on specific parameters, and two out of four trucks were found liable to be fined. Dr. Saha also personally monitored how doubtful vehicles were being checked.

IOCL Depot Visit and Anti-Corruption Warning

Dr. Saha also visited the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) depot in the area, where he interacted with drivers. He advised them not to pay money to anyone illegally and to report such incidents directly to his office.
“These practices cannot continue and will not be allowed,” he asserted.
He also instructed IOCL officials to ensure all operations are conducted strictly as per rules and procedures.

Push for Digitalisation and Modern Management

The Chief Minister stressed the need for digitalisation, introduction of Single Window Services, and modernisation of the management system at the check post. He ordered authorities to keep a close watch on every vehicle to prevent illegal entry into the state.
