Tripura has emerged as a frontrunner in child welfare in the Northeast, with comprehensive protection systems now operational in all eight districts.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, while addressing the One-Day North Eastern Regional Convention on Child Rights at Pragya Bhavan, announced major strides in the state’s child protection framework.

Key Highlights of Tripura’s Child Protection Initiatives
- 44 Child Care Institutions providing shelter & support to nearly 950 children
- 28 children legally adopted between 2022–25
- Special Juvenile Police Units active in all eight districts
- 4,200+ children covered under sponsorship programs
- 14 young adults successfully rehabilitated through aftercare services
- Juvenile Justice Boards & Child Welfare Committees functional across every district
- 2.29 lakh children covered under ICDS & Poshan Abhiyan (July 2025 data)
CM Saha stressed that protecting children is a shared responsibility:
“Children are not miniature adults; they are human beings in their own right. Protecting them is safeguarding the future of our nation. If we neglect children, we neglect the very foundation of our society,” he said.

Holistic Approach
Tripura’s model combines institutional care, community-based sponsorship, nutrition programs, adoption support, and juvenile justice mechanisms. The government has prioritised health and nutrition to fight malnutrition, strengthen growth monitoring, and ensure a nurturing environment for every child.
“A child nurtured and protected today will become a responsible citizen of tomorrow. Investing in children is investing in our collective future,” Dr. Saha affirmed.
The convention at Agartala brought together delegations and officials from across the Northeast, underlining Tripura’s role as a regional leader in child rights protection.
