TMC Leader Anubrata Mondal Faces FIR Over Abusive Call to Police Officer.

Kolkata, June 1, 2025 – Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal has been booked by the Birbhum district police after an audio clip surfaced in which he allegedly used abusive language and issued threats to Bolpur police station’s Inspector-in-Charge, Liton Halder, and his family. The incident has sparked political controversy and led to swift action from both law enforcement and the TMC leadership.

The four-minute audio recording, which went viral on social media, purportedly captures Mondal berating and threatening the police officer over the phone. Following the emergence of the clip, the TMC condemned Mondal’s language, stating that the party “unequivocally disassociates and does not endorse the comments made by Anubrata Mondal against a police officer.” The party instructed him to tender an unconditional apology within four hours, warning of disciplinary action if he failed to comply.

Mondal issued a written apology shortly thereafter, expressing regret for his conduct and stating, “I am sad about the recent incident. I can apologise to Didi’s police a hundred times.” He attributed his outburst to emotional distress and medications, claiming he was upset over alleged police actions against a party worker’s son.
Despite the apology, the Birbhum police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Mondal under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including non-bailable offenses. Mondal was summoned for questioning but failed to appear, citing ill health. His legal counsel submitted a medical report and alleged that the audio clip was fabricated using artificial intelligence, suggesting a conspiracy against the TMC leader. The incident has intensified political tensions in West Bengal, with opposition parties demanding strict action against Mondal. The TMC’s prompt response and Mondal’s subsequent apology highlight the party’s efforts to manage internal discipline and public perception amid the controversy.

As investigations continue, the situation remains fluid, with further legal proceedings anticipated based on the findings of the police inquiry.
