TMC-BJP Clash in Tripura:
Tensions flared between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday after a TMC delegation from Kolkata was allegedly restrained at Agartala airport following the vandalism of the party’s Tripura office in Dhaleshwar.

According to Trinamool leaders, the attack on their party office was carried out by BJP workers, escalating an already charged political rivalry between the two parties in the northeastern state.

TMC Delegation Visits Vandalised Office
The five-member Trinamool delegation — comprising MPs Saayoni Ghosh and Pratima Mondal, Minister Birbaha Hansda, and spokespersons Kunal Ghosh and Sudip Raha — arrived in Agartala around 12:30 p.m. to assess the damage at their office.
Saayoni Ghosh, addressing reporters at the vandalised premises, said,
> “The maa, mati, manush of Tripura has given us immense love. If we were insignificant, why would the BJP vandalise our office?”
The attack reportedly took place on Tuesday night, just a day after BJP leaders were assaulted in West Bengal, incidents for which the BJP had blamed Trinamool.
Delegation ‘Held Back’ at Agartala Airport
Drama unfolded soon after the TMC team’s arrival. Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh alleged that local drivers were threatened and prevented from picking up the delegation.
> “Even prepaid taxis were denied to us. When we decided to walk, police stopped us,” he claimed.
The leaders then staged a brief sit-in protest at Agartala airport, later joined by Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev.

Mamata Banerjee Slams Tripura Government
West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee sharply criticised the ‘double-engine BJP government’ of Tripura, accusing it of misusing power to suppress opposition voices.
> “They stopped even a five-member team of MPs and a minister. If needed, I would have gone there myself to see their audacity,” she said in Kolkata.
Banerjee referenced past incidents when Trinamool convoys — including those of Abhishek Banerjee and Sushmita Dev — were allegedly attacked in Tripura.
BJP Counters TMC Allegations
Responding to TMC’s claims, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul said the Trinamool is trying to divert attention from internal issues in West Bengal.
> “Why would BJP vandalise a party that has no presence in Tripura?” Paul asked.
Delegation Meets Police Chief, Plans Governor Visit
Later in the evening, the Trinamool delegation met the Director General of Police (DGP) to register complaints regarding both the vandalism and the airport incident. They are expected to meet the Tripura Governor on Thursday.
Trinamool, which has been attempting to expand its footprint in Tripura since 2021, continues to face stiff political opposition from the ruling BJP.
