In a significant move toward digital empowerment, the Tripura government has announced plans to build robust infrastructure to support emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 5G networks. The initiative is part of the state’s broader digital development agenda aligned with India’s Digital India mission.

The government is in discussions with central authorities and tech partners to enhance digital connectivity across both urban and rural areas. The planned infrastructure will include AI research and training hubs, 5G towers, and smart service integration to boost governance, education, and healthcare delivery. The Tripura government has also given land for data centers that will act as a hub for the eastern and northeastern parts of India.
“Today, I am honored to speak about the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 5G in the northeastern region, including my state, Tripura,” Manik Saha said. He also congratulated the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) for organizing this important event.
He also mentioned that“Tripura is preparing for the future. Developing AI and 5G infrastructure will not only improve services but also attract investments and generate employment,” .
This digital push will particularly benefit sectors like agriculture, education, e-governance, and startup incubation. The state also aims to upskill its youth through AI literacy programs and technical training to bridge the digital divide.
With the rollout of 5G, internet speed and connectivity will improve significantly, enabling real-time applications like smart surveillance, remote diagnostics, and precision farming.
As Tripura positions itself as a tech-enabled state, the roadmap underscores a vision for an inclusive and innovation-driven economy.
