The Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) Sanchar Saathi Mobile App has crossed an impressive 50 lakh downloads within just six months of its launch, marking a major milestone in India’s fight against telecom fraud and misuse of mobile connections.

Available in English, Hindi, and 21 regional languages, the app empowers citizens to quickly report suspected fraud communications directly from their call and SMS logs — making it easier than ever to safeguard against cybercrime and financial fraud.

Big Wins for Telecom Security

Since its inception, the Sanchar Saathi initiative has:


  • Recovered over 5.35 lakh lost or stolen mobile handsets.
  • Disconnected more than 1 crore unauthorized mobile connections based on citizen reports.
  • Deactivated over 29 lakh mobile numbers flagged through its Chakshu feature.
  • Recorded over 16.7 crore visits to the Sanchar Saathi Portal — a clear sign of growing public trust.

Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) – A Game Changer

DoT’s Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) tool helps banks, NBFCs, and UPI service providers proactively act against fraud by identifying risky mobile numbers.

✅ 10.02 lakh bank accounts/payment wallets frozen.

✅ 3.05 lakh accounts restricted for debit/credit transactions.

Launched for Public Empowerment

After the portal’s success since May 16, 2023, DoT launched the Sanchar Saathi Mobile App on January 17, 2025 for both Android and iOS. The app puts telecom security services directly into citizens’ hands.
