PLI Scheme 2025: Govt Reopens Applications, Boosts AC & LED Manufacturing

New Delhi | Sep 14,2025 | SKY LINK TIMES

The government has announced the reopening of the application window for the Production-Linked Incentive PLI Scheme for White Goods, covering air conditioners (ACs) and LED lights. The new application period runs from September 15, 2025 to October 14, 2025, the Commerce Ministry confirmed on Sunday.

The decision comes in response to the strong investor appetite and growing confidence generated by domestic manufacturing of key components in the white goods sector.

Why the PLI Scheme Window Was Reopened

According to the Ministry, the move aims to further strengthen India’s value chain in ACs and LED lighting, especially in segments where domestic production remains limited. So far, 83 applicants with a committed investment of ₹10,406 crore have been selected as beneficiaries under the scheme, which carries an outlay of ₹6,238 crore and spans FY 2021-22 to FY 2028-29.

The ministry clarified that the extended window is designed to allow both new applicants and existing beneficiaries seeking to upgrade their investment category to participate, provided they meet eligibility norms.

Eligibility and Incentive Structure under PLI Scheme

New applicants approved in this fourth round will be eligible for incentives for a maximum of two years only.

Existing beneficiaries shifting to higher investment categories under GP-2 (up to March 2023) will also qualify for incentives for two years.

Those under GP-1 (up to March 2022) moving to higher investment brackets will receive incentives for one year.

If beneficiaries fail to meet the required thresholds for investment or sales in a given year, they may still file claims under their original investment plan—a flexibility granted only once during the scheme’s tenure.

Boosting India’s White Goods Manufacturing

The government emphasized that these investments will help scale up the manufacturing ecosystem for ACs and LED lights across the full value chain, including components not currently produced in India in sufficient quantities.

By reopening the scheme, the Centre aims to reduce import dependency, generate jobs, and boost India’s position as a global hub for white goods manufacturing.

What’s Next for Applicants

Applications will be accepted only via the official online portal until October 14, 2025. No submissions will be considered after the deadline. The ministry urged interested companies to review Scheme Guidelines (Para 5.6, Appendix-1/1A) to ensure compliance before applying.
