Nikki Burnt Alive After Brutal Assault

According to the FIR lodged by Nikki Bhati’s sister, Kanchan—who is married into the same household—Nikki was assaulted by her husband Vipin and mother-in-law Daya on the evening of August 21. When Kanchan tried to intervene, she too was beaten.

Vipin allegedly poured a flammable liquid on Nikki before setting her ablaze. Horrifying videos recorded by Kanchan show Nikki being assaulted, walking in flames, and later sitting on the floor with severe burn injuries. Nikki succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.

Escape Attempt and Encounter

On Sunday, accused Vipin Bhati attempted to escape police custody. While being taken to his residence to recover the bottle used in the crime, he allegedly snatched a policeman’s pistol and opened fire. Police retaliated, leaving him with a bullet wound in his leg.

Senior officer Sudhir Kumar confirmed the incident and said Vipin was immediately shifted to hospital.

Victim’s Father Demands Justice

The victim’s father, Bikhari Singh Payla, expressed his anguish, demanding strict action.
They are killers. They should be shot, and their home should be demolished. My daughter was raising her son by running a beauty parlour, but they tortured her and killed her,” he told reporters.

Satyavir, Nikki Bhati's father-in-law, has been arrested.

Vipin Denies Allegations

Speaking from his hospital bed after the encounter, Vipin Bhati claimed innocence.
“I haven’t killed her. She died on her own. Husbands and wives often fight—it is very common,”

Dowry Demands Despite Lavish Gifts

Nikki and her sister Kanchan married brothers Vipin and Rohit in December 2016. Despite their father giving what Kanchan described as “huge dowry”—including a Scorpio SUV, Royal Enfield Bullet, cash, and gold—the in-laws allegedly continued to demand more.

“Our parents did everything. They would still taunt us, saying the clothes gifted by our parents cost only ₹2,” Said by Kanchan
