AYUSH Driving Preventive and Holistic Healthcare

The Vice President emphasised that institutions under Ministry of AYUSH are playing a vital role in promoting preventive and holistic healthcare. He noted that practices such as yoga and naturopathy are not alternatives but strong complements to modern medical systems.

He further pointed out that these traditional approaches are contributing significantly to India’s growing medical and wellness tourism sector, attracting global attention.

A Vision of ‘Swasth Bharat’ Alongside ‘Viksit Bharat’

Highlighting India’s development journey, the Vice President said that the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India) must go hand in hand with a “Swasth Bharat” (healthy India).

He stressed that institutions like Nisargopachar Ashram are crucial in promoting a balanced lifestyle rooted in nature, discipline, and simplicity—principles inspired by Mahatma Gandhi.

Rising Lifestyle Diseases Make Traditional Wisdom Relevant

Amid the increasing burden of lifestyle-related diseases, the Vice President said that the message of naturopathy and yoga is more relevant than ever. He urged citizens to focus on balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and mental well-being.

“Health is not merely the absence of disease but a complete state of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being,” he noted, underlining the holistic philosophy of traditional Indian medicine.

True Happiness Lies in Balance, Not Material Success

Addressing modern-day stress and fast-paced lifestyles, the Vice President remarked that people often chase happiness through material success, but true fulfilment comes from inner peace and harmony.

He added that individual well-being contributes to stronger families, which in turn strengthens society and the nation as a whole.

On the occasion, the Vice President released the book Secrets of Our Happiness, authored by Narayan Hegde, Managing Trustee of the Ashram.
He also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, who conceptualised the Ashram, and the farmer who donated land for its establishment. He described the institution as more than just a healthcare centre—calling it a movement and a way of life rooted in Gandhian ideals.

A Global Gift from India

Concluding his address, the Vice President described India’s traditional wellness systems as invaluable contributions to the world. He reiterated that living in harmony with nature, guided by simplicity and discipline, holds the key to true health and happiness.
