According to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Nepal, the Government of India will provide around 650 vehicles in total, which will be delivered in multiple batches over the coming weeks.

Vehicles Handed Over at Formal Ceremony

The vehicles were formally handed over to Nepal’s Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal at a ceremony in Kathmandu. The handover was conducted by Dr. Rakesh Pandey, Charge d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy in Nepal, on behalf of the Indian government.

The embassy said the assistance was provided based on requests from the Nepali government to support logistical preparations for the upcoming elections.

Nepal Appreciates India’s Continued Support

During the ceremony, Home Minister Aryal expressed gratitude to the government and people of India for the timely assistance. He also highlighted the deep, comprehensive, and long-standing ties between the two neighbouring countries.
“This cooperation reflects the trust and friendship shared between India and Nepal,” officials noted, underlining the importance of regional partnership during crucial democratic processes.

India’s Longstanding Role in Nepal’s Elections

India has been extending election-related support to Nepal since 2008, beginning with the country’s first Constituent Assembly elections. Over the years, New Delhi has gifted approximately 2,400 vehicles to various Nepali ministries, departments, and the Election Commission, according to embassy data.
The Indian Embassy described the ongoing cooperation as a multi-faceted and multi-sectoral development partnership, reinforcing institutional capacity and democratic stability in Nepal.

Relief After Widespread Vehicle Damage

The latest delivery comes at a critical time for Nepal. During the Gen-Z-led protests in September last year, hundreds of government-owned vehicles were destroyed. A government-appointed committee later assessed that as many as 8,430 official vehicles were damaged during the unrest.
Officials believe the vehicles provided by India will significantly ease logistical challenges, particularly in election management, security deployment, and administrative mobility across difficult terrains.

Strengthening Democratic Cooperation

The embassy said the assistance not only supports Nepal’s election preparations but also symbolizes the deep mutual trust and friendship between the people of the two countries.
With more consignments expected soon, India’s support is set to play a key role in ensuring smooth, free, and efficient elections in Nepal.
