In a significant diplomatic engagement, Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arrived in New Delhi on a five-day official visit to India. He was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu, signifying a renewed push to strengthen bilateral ties between India and the Philippines.

Warm Reception & Ceremonial Welcome
President Marcos received a ceremonial guard of honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan, followed by a traditional welcome hosted by President Murmu. Later, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with Marcos at Hyderabad House, where key issues of mutual interest were discussed.
What’s on the Agenda?
The visit aims to deepen collaboration across various sectors, including:
Defence and maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific
Trade and investment facilitation
Agricultural innovation and food security
Education and skill development exchange programs
Joint commitment to a rules-based international order
Both nations are expected to sign several MoUs and strategic agreements, reinforcing India’s “Act East Policy” and the Philippines’ Indo-Pacific vision.
A Strategic Friendship
President Marcos’s visit marks a pivotal moment in India-Philippines relations. It is his first visit to India as President, and it follows increased regional cooperation amidst growing strategic challenges in the South China Sea.
The two leaders reiterated their commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, emphasizing the role of ASEAN and Quad partnerships.
Cultural Diplomacy
Aside from high-level talks, President Marcos is also scheduled to visit key cultural and technological institutions in Mumbai and Bengaluru. He will engage with Indian business leaders, and the Indian diaspora, and attend a cultural event celebrating Filipino-Indian friendship.
