New Delhi, October 30, 2025: Cyprus Foreign Affairs Minister Constantinos Kombos arrived in New Delhi today for a three-day official visit aimed at advancing India-Cyprus bilateral relations and fostering stronger ties between India and the European Union (EU).
The visit, which comes just months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s June trip to Cyprus, signals growing momentum in diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

Strengthening Bilateral and Strategic Cooperation
During his stay, FM Kombos is scheduled to hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, focusing on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, maritime security, and digital innovation. Both sides are also expected to discuss regional stability and collaboration on global issues such as climate change, sustainable development, and multilateral reform.
As part of his visit, Minister Kombos will also deliver a lecture at Sapru House, a leading diplomatic think tank in New Delhi, highlighting the evolving contours of India-Cyprus relations and their shared vision for a rules-based global order.
Following the Modi-Kombos Roadmap
FM Kombos’ visit builds upon the Joint Declaration signed during PM Modi’s visit to Cyprus in June 2025, which outlined a roadmap for deeper strategic engagement. The declaration reaffirmed shared commitments to democracy, multilateralism, and sustainable development, underscoring India and Cyprus as trusted partners in promoting regional and global peace.
A major focus area of the declaration—and of this week’s talks—is the progress toward concluding the EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of 2025, well ahead of Cyprus assuming the EU Council Presidency in 2026.
India-Cyprus Ties: A Bridge Between India and the EU
Experts view Cyprus as a vital link between India and the European Union, given its strategic location in the eastern Mediterranean and strong diplomatic presence within the EU framework. With both nations celebrating decades of friendship based on mutual respect and shared democratic values, the visit is expected to inject new energy into economic, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges.
In recent years, cooperation has expanded beyond politics into areas such as education, technology, renewable energy, and tourism, reflecting a broader vision for a sustainable and inclusive partnership.

Looking Ahead
The upcoming discussions are expected to pave the way for new memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in trade facilitation, investment protection, and joint research initiatives. Analysts suggest that a successful visit could also strengthen India’s standing within the European Union as it pursues greater access for its goods and services across European markets.
With both countries reaffirming their shared goals, FM Kombos’ visit marks another milestone in the growing India-Cyprus partnership, one rooted in common values and a shared aspiration for global stability and prosperity.
