India Completes Software Fix on All A320 Aircraft:
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Sunday confirmed that Indian airlines have completed the mandatory software update on all operational Airbus A320-family aircraft, addressing potential flight-control issues linked to intense solar radiation.

The upgrade covers 323 A320-family aircraft currently operated by IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express, ensuring full compliance with the emergency airworthiness directive issued by global regulators.

323 Aircraft Updated Across Indian Carriers
According to DGCA officials:
IndiGo: All 200 aircraft updated
Air India: 100 out of 113 aircraft updated
Air India Express: 23 out of 25 aircraft updated
The regulator clarified that:
Four Air India aircraft undergoing base maintenance will be updated during their scheduled checks
Nine Air India aircraft do not require the modification
Two Air India Express aircraft currently in maintenance will be returned to lessors
Airbus Alert Triggered Safety Action
The update follows a technical alert issued by Airbus on Friday, warning that during periods of strong solar activity, including solar flares, the Elevator and Aileron Computer (ELAC) could briefly malfunction.
ELAC manages aircraft pitch control (up and down movement) and roll control (turning).
A temporary corruption of its data could impact climb, descent, or turning performance, although such events are extremely rare.
After the alert, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued an Emergency Airworthiness Directive, prompting DGCA to follow with its own order requiring immediate action.

Airlines Respond Swiftly
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Air India Express said it completed precautionary checks on its A320 fleet within the required timeframe, noting strong collaboration between engineering, operations and flight-safety teams, supported by Airbus and aviation authorities.
DGCA said the update ensures that the entire operational A320 fleet in India is now safe, protected and compliant with the latest global safety requirements, minimizing disruption to passenger operations.
Passenger Safety Prioritised
A DGCA spokesperson noted that while the risk was low, aviation regulators acted quickly to eliminate any potential safety concerns in air navigation.
The move reflects strengthened coordination between airlines, global aviation regulators and aircraft manufacturers, especially during a period of increased solar activity expected in coming months.
With the successful updates, the authorities reassured passengers that A320 flights in India remain safe and fully airworthy.
