Regional Food to Enhance Passenger Experience

Addressing officials, Minister Vaishnaw said that serving local cuisine reflective of the regions through which trains operate would significantly improve passenger satisfaction.

“Introducing local cuisine will allow passengers to experience the culture and taste of the region they are travelling through,” the minister noted, adding that the facility would be progressively rolled out to more trains in the future.

Vande Bharat Express trains, known for their speed, modern amenities and premium services, are seen as the ideal platform to pilot this initiative before a nationwide rollout.

Crackdown on Fake IRCTC Accounts Shows Results

Alongside the food initiative, the Railways Minister highlighted the success of Indian Railways’ crackdown on ticket booking through fake identities.

Following the implementation of a stringent user verification system on the IRCTC platform, the number of new user IDs being created daily has dropped sharply to around 5,000 per day, compared to nearly one lakh per day earlier.

So far, 3.03 crore fake user accounts have been deactivated, while another 2.7 crore accounts have been either temporarily suspended or identified for suspension due to suspicious activity.

Aadhaar-Based OTP Improves Tatkal Bookings

Vaishnaw also informed that Aadhaar-based OTP verification for online Tatkal ticket bookings is now operational on 322 trains. This reform has led to a 65 per cent increase in confirmed Tatkal ticket availability time on these services.

Additionally, Aadhaar-based OTP verification has been introduced at reservation counters on 211 trains in a phased manner. According to the Railways Ministry, confirmed Tatkal ticket availability has improved in about 95 per cent of 96 popular trains.

Advanced Anti-Bot Measures Deployed

To further ensure fair access to ticket bookings, Indian Railways has deployed advanced anti-bot solutions such as AKAMAI to filter out non-genuine users and ensure smoother bookings for legitimate passengers.

“About 3.02 crore suspicious user IDs have been deactivated since January 2025,” the minister confirmed.

Conclusion

With plans to serve local cuisine on Vande Bharat trains and strengthened reforms in ticket booking systems, Indian Railways is focusing on both passenger comfort and fairness. The initiatives mark another step toward modernising India’s rail travel experience while ensuring transparency and accessibility.
