Mumbai is witnessing the arrival of Ganpati idols in several mandals even as continuous rains have brought the city to a standstill. Devotees carried idols through waterlogged streets on Saturday, showcasing their devotion despite the downpour.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city reported six short circuits, 19 tree or branch falls, and two wall collapse incidents during the rains. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported.
IMD Issues Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and neighbouring districts including Thane and Palghar. The warning remains in place until at least August 19, cautioning residents about heavy to very heavy rainfall.
An orange alert indicates the likelihood of disruption in daily life due to waterlogging, flooding, and traffic congestion. Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay indoors whenever possible.

Ganesh Festival Preparations Continue Despite Weather
With Ganesh Chaturthi approaching, mandals across the city are busy welcoming their beloved Bappa. Idols were seen arriving in trucks and handcarts, often covered with tarpaulin sheets to protect them from the rain. Despite the weather challenges, the festive spirit among Mumbaikars remains undeterred.
The BMC has assured that disaster management teams are on high alert to handle any emergency. Additional pumps have been stationed in flood-prone areas to tackle waterlogging.

Officials have urged residents to follow safety advisories, avoid areas with heavy waterlogging, and be alert about possible tree falls and electrical hazards. With rains predicted to continue, authorities are working to ensure the upcoming Ganesh festival celebrations remain safe and smooth.
