Agartala, June 4: In the wake of recent flash floods that disrupted daily life in various parts of Agartala, former Tripura Chief Minister Sri Biplab Deb paid a visit to the affected areas to assess the damage and interact with local residents. Following the visit, he distributed food and essential supplies to flood-hit families.

The ex-CM Biplab Deb visited several low-lying areas inundated due to heavy rainfall and spoke to residents who have lost property or had to be temporarily displaced. Accompanied by party members and local officials, he assured that the plight of the people will be raised with the current state administration to ensure timely assistance.
Visiting a relief camp at Hrishi Colony in Pratapgarh English Medium school, Agartala, sheltering 482 families with approximately 2,000 inmates, Deb said the residents were being well looked after by the administration.
Deb further said that the early arrival of the monsoon this year posed additional challenges, but the administration responded proactively.
“Installation of pumps and redevelopment of ponds under the Smart City Mission have significantly helped in managing the crisis,” he noted.
Speaking to Sky Link Times, Deb emphasized that flood-hit families are now preparing to return to their homes. “All necessary arrangements have been made. Once back, they will clean and resume their normal lives. These are hardworking people who earn through labour,” he said.
He also announced that the government has prepared a relief package that includes rice, lentils, potatoes, soybeans, spices, and other essentials, designed to sustain affected families for up to 24 days. “Proper arrangements for drinking water and medicines have also been made,” he added. The package is designed to ensure that they can sustain themselves for 2 to 4 days. The government has also ensured proper arrangements for water and medicines. Efforts are being made to make sure they receive adequate relief once they are back home. The overall situation in the camp is quite good. I asked someone yesterday about their condition here, and they said they are doing very well. They mentioned that the government has taken good care of everyone, providing proper food and medicines on time,” Deb said.
