Co-op Biogas Plant:A Milestone for Green Energy and Cooperatives
Calling the event a “proud moment for the nation,” Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision has turned India’s cooperative sector into a strong force for self-reliant rural development.
“By strengthening cooperatives, PM Modi has given a new lifeline to India’s rural economy. The cooperative sector is emerging as a strong pillar of our nation’s progress,” Shah remarked during the inauguration.
The new plant will serve as a model for similar future projects, with 15 cooperative sugar factories across India set to develop their own biogas initiatives in collaboration with the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC). The goal: to reduce carbon footprint, promote energy self-sufficiency, and generate income opportunities for farmers.
Government’s Commitment to Farmers
Highlighting the government’s pro-farmer agenda, the Home Minister referenced the recently launched Dalhan Atmanirbharta Project, a ₹11,340-crore mission announced on October 1, aimed at achieving self-reliance in pulses production.
Under this initiative, farmers cultivating pigeon pea, black gram pea, and red lentils can sell their produce at Minimum Support Price (MSP) through NAFED and NCCF, ensuring 100% procurement by the government.
Additionally, 1,000 processing units will be established nationwide, and 38 lakh high-quality seed kits will be distributed to boost productivity.
The Union government has also raised MSP rates — masoor (₹300 per quintal), mustard (₹250), and chana (₹225) — reflecting its ongoing commitment to enhancing farmers’ income and supporting agricultural sustainability.

A Call for Sustainability and Swadeshi
Reiterating Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on environmental responsibility, Shah urged citizens to join the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, encouraging everyone to plant two trees — one for Mother Earth and one for their mothers.
He further linked sustainability with economic nationalism, saying,
“Prime Minister Modi has taken India’s economy from the 11th to the 4th position globally. To become number one, there is no alternative to Swadeshi.”
Empowering Rural India Through Innovation
The inauguration of the Kopargaon cooperative biogas plant is seen as a game-changer for India’s rural energy landscape. By integrating waste-to-wealth technologies, cooperative ownership models, and government backing, the initiative aligns with India’s net-zero carbon goals and the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
