Asian Youth Para Games 2025 Open in Dubai

The Opening Ceremony of the Asian Youth Para Games 2025 was held on Wednesday in Dubai, featuring vibrant cultural performances and participation from young para-athletes representing various Asian nations. The ceremony marked the beginning of a major sporting celebration promoting inclusion, diversity, and sporting excellence.

Dubai is hosting the Games for the second time since 2017, reaffirming its growing status as a key hub for para sports in Asia.

Strong Participation from Asian Nations

According to the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC), several nations have sent large contingents to the Games. Iran, the defending champions and table-toppers at the Bahrain 2021 edition with 51 gold medals, have fielded the largest delegation with 195 athletes.

They are followed by Uzbekistan (124 athletes), while Thailand and India have both sent 122 athletes each, making them among the top participating nations in terms of representation.

The host nation United Arab Emirates has fielded 55 athletes, showcasing the country’s growing investment in para sports and the efforts of organisations such as the Asian Paralympic Committee and the Dubai Club for People of Determination.

Star Athletes Add Prestige to the Games

The Games also feature several elite para-athletes, including Iran’s Zahra Rahimi, a silver medallist in women’s -52kg Para Taekwondo at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, and Chen Po-Yen of Chinese Taipei, the ITTF World No.1 and Paris 2024 Paralympic silver medallist in Class 11.
